The cupboard is not crooked...the photo is..I need to sand the inside edge so the door closes properly[.my math skills are not perfect.]...but I like the step ladder look of the three cupboards in the kitchen..I did not put the mess away yet ..as you can see in the utility room. When I clean off the counter under the cabinet I will post photos from the other way..before and after looks.

Today I figured out my router table..I bought at a yard sale, new in the box about 15 or 20 years ago..and my router I got about 20 years ago and tried once.. I routed the edge for my cabinet door..after I messed up a lot of scrap wood pieces figuring it out. Tomorrow I will clean it up and prime and paint it hopefully..and get hinges on it. I got the hinges at a local yard sale..they match mine perfectly..white paint mess and all.

I got my own personal dispensation yesterday. The 11+ hour Tuesdays were killing Bill at work and me at the temple. I told then I was probably going to have to change to the morning shift so my husband could get out of work sooner. My coordinator and I discussed options..since I LOVE my mid day shift people..and they trained me...........and I have been starting to feel abused as an un official "permanent sub" for the morning shift. My coordinator decided to ask the temple president if I could drop Bill off at work at 8 and then come work in the temple about 8:30 until 4 as an ordinance worker. Pres. Finnigan's only concern was that I make the 12 o'clock prayer meeting. [They are running short on workers .] Yesterday they had to cancel all sealing sessions due to lack of men working. [shift times are mornings 7:00 or 7:30 a.m.[depending on the job]-12:30 p.m. then, mid-day shift 12:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.] I am so thankful this president is flexible. I hope the morning coordinator is as agreeable as the mid-day coordinator. ! Mornings have fewer workers than mid-day shift so I for see no problem. We are thankful to be the exception to the rule.

Christmas surprises

For Wed. Dec. 21st. dadu and I decided to go to Orem Utah for Christmas. He had 7 days to use or loose from work. On the way out we stopped in Corona and left a couple of gifts at my brother's house...[Treats and a photo album of photos I had of him.] We got to St. George in the afternoon and did an endowment session in the temple there. We have never done that there. It was a Great experience. I love the time period furniture and lights and such !! That night we stayed in a $33.00 plus fees..hotel there...Knights Inn airport...no frills..just what we needed to sleep. Thursday we went to Manti, ate a whole pizza, and did a session in that temple.[live]...again a Great new experience and awesome time period furniture, paintings, carpet ...etc...You have got to see the dinosaurs,etc.. painted on the walls there ! We got to Orem in the afternoon..and hit D.I. of course..then to Eddie and Sandy's apt. after we dropped off gifts at Abby's house...[.they were on a cruise with his parents ..nice gift !] We camped out at Sandy and Eddie's for the duration of the trip. They are excellent hosts and hostess'. We enjoyed our visit.!! We had dinner at Cafe Rio and then they drove around to show us the lights. Friday we went to the "UP "house in Harriman Utah..it was awesome...just like in the" UP" movie !!! We got to tour the whole house ..then we went to SLC . We saw the Joseph Smith movie in the Joseph Smith memorial building...very powerful. We walked around temple square and looked at the lights..and ran into Jill Duram and her husband and 3 children...and enjoyed visiting with her a little. She looks great ! Saturday morning...Christmas Eve we couldn't wait any longer so we took some Cosco muffins and caroled to Nathan's family at breakfast time. !! They were truly surprised.!!..meanwhile before this, Shannon thought were were dead or something because she couldn't get a hold of us by phone., I forgot my cell phone and camera at home...and those in the know didn't tell..so we had to call and tell her what was going on !! Dadu and Nathan hung out most of the day and I hung with April and kiddos..April and I were able to escape and went to Shopko and to Panda Express for lunch...it was nice. ! I got cute sheets for Maddie and Ava's bunk beds..washed and dried them at Sandy's and went and put them on the beds. Christmas Eve I did some shopping..got myself a wheat grinder attachment for my Kitchen aid...and a cheese slicer for April. We all had a nice ham dinner at April's house..and the orange Christmas story....by her..and chocolate orange slices...[I sewed pajamas for 3 kids as April cut them out before dinner]..Christmas day we did stockings and gifts at Sandy's....then went to Nathan's church. He conducted the meeting. He is awesome ! We went to Nathan's house after church and watched them open gifts. We then watched Seth's family open gifts via the computer...that was fun. Abby called April so we knew she was home. We went over, pulled up in front of her house and got out of the car and she came flying down the steps..she was excited.! At midnight she had been home and seen the gifts from us and drove by Nathan's house to see if we were there...but didn't see our car so she decided we must not be around...[.our car was hidden in Eddie's garage for those first couple of days !! ] We played with the girls ...it was sweet ! We all had dinner at Nathan and April's. Monday dadu was a zombie..We visited Abby..then we went to DI in American Fork....and when he started vomiting out the car door we knew why...I dropped him off to sleep for 11 hours on our air mattress . I went to Winco, bought Lysol wipes and cleaned up the car. I went and visited Becca and Aida and the rest of the Monsivais family. Greg and family weren't home so I left a note...Tuesday we played with family some more and in the afternoon we went to church distribution and a store or two...then bade them all good bye and headed back to the cheap hotel in St. George.[ found on travelocity.com] and spent the night there..We drove home Wednesday..after we got dadu's sun glasses fixed at Walmart. We stopped in Vegas and looked at the Bellagio...all decorated ..went to their DI and had lunch then came on home....lots of people had the same idea...[to go Wed. to miss traffic]...so we didn't miss traffic...It Was A GREAT week. We enjoyed it all[ except for the sick part ] A LOT !! Thanks everyone for the Awesome Christmas vacation !!

Today I finished a job covering four 20 inch pillows and 6 dining room chairs and a round foot stool. They got picked up really fast. My hands are rather stiff and sore..all that staple gun and hammer work..plus tugging fabric...Now I am working on 6 funky Christmas stockings for another friend..maybe I will remember to get a photo of these.

I had so much fun at the temple yesterday. I got there at 7 a.m. I thought I was a sub. for a sister but found out that is next week. I said I would work anyway...the coordinator was so excited and sent me to the front foyer immediately..then to the atrium, then to the youth center...4 children, a 10 year old with downs syndrome that was really fun !! I did a lot of chasing after her..literally...she could escape in a heartbeat ! I spent hours playing with cars and blocks with her. Their sealing was a real tear jerker !! They had names like Zaid, Jordon, Omar....It was really neat ! On my shift I got to go somewhere new every half hour..even to serve food in the cafeteria ! It was a 10 hour day but really fun !!

I finished making the dresses and decorations and found matching stuff...and mailed it all in a flat rate priority box for $14.20...it weighed 19 lbs...[ 3 lbs were gummy bears] Anthony is trading sewing capes for taking their photos.

For home evening we went to the Escondido Center for the Performing Arts..to a REUNION concert. Two of the old...[literally] Lettermen. Their third now is Ric de Azevedo [ from the King brothers.] Some unknown temple lover bought the place out for the evening and invited all the San Diego temple workers [like 1500]to a free concert..and as we were leaving they gave us all a REUNION CD...songs we sang as the Lettermen. It was really a fun evening. The guy on the drums is a temple worker in Draper. I got my CD signed..free thrills, I tell ya.! Opening the evening with 2 songs was Craig Heesch...who was once nominated for a Grammy....I work with him and his wife every Tuesday !

I loved Pres. Uchtdorf's talk tonight...He talked about Forget-Me-Nots being such a tiny over looked flower...but beautiful and important. he gave 5 points to remember...

1. Forget not to be patient with yourself !! It is part of your mortal experience to have weaknesses. Stop punishing yourself. Be patient and compassionate with yourself ! You have many unnoticed successes !

2.Forget not the difference between good sacrifice and foolish sacrifice. Am I committing my time and energies to the things that matter the most ?

3.Forget not to be HAPPY now ! Talking about Willy Wonka...Don't wait for you "golden ticket " to be happy. Don't put your happiness on hold. Don't be disappointed, withdrawn or lonely. Today I made a new storage system for patterns, notions and fabric. This is the sewing room closet..I added a second shelf above and a second bar below..painted it all up to match. I got great slip proof hangers at our new Ross. I got the VHS bookcase at the thrift store for the patterns. This closet had major usefulness issues before..now it is GREAT !

This morning we did a temple session and then went to the sealing of Kevin and Amy..they never kissed until the alter. Here are two of my favorite and different parts of this day..forget the whole bride maid game..This is Kevin's wedding..As a child he was always someone else and lived it for awhile..like Waldo and Peter pan....They also provided sack lunches for everybody at the temple !! It was really fun. All of dadu's siblings were there, and in fine form.

I love gazania's but so do the gophers..and the flowers are expensive for gopher food ! This morning as I took my walk I took a sandwich bag and collected seeds from different gazania's . Many of them are dropping their seeds right now. I planted the seeds on the mounds dumped in the front yard from the retaining wall project in the back yard. I watered them good and we'll see if I get flowers. I will repeat the process next walk !

They left a nice Father's day sign..and transplanted poppies and ice plant. The gophers got ALOT of tunnels messed up in this process !! And, No, the anti-gopher windmill does NOT keep them away..but it's cute !

Saturday June 4th I got to play all day. I went to another church's rummage sale on the way to the Stake center for an all day women's convention..I found a new set of mini Easter ornaments for a daughter-in-law, a shower curtain rod I wanted and a piece of fabric for another gift.....after 2 classes I ditched and went to a HUGE parking lot sale at a different church..$5 for a huge bag of anything..my bag included sheer curtains, a hammock, a big pouffe formal slip, a chess set for Levi,[ he is a whiz at math and checkers] 7 new dvd's,[feature films for families] a shower curtain and rings, 3 lace panels....then I went back for the keynote speaker and 2 more classes.on the way home I hit another yard sale and got lots of books....came home, changed and Dadu and I went to La Jolla..Chipotle for dinner and then ward temple night.. ice cream at the Bishops' after. Oh ya ..I did get two loads of wash done in the morning...I tell ya !!! FUN

Shannon had her baby girl this after noon. She was admitted about 12:30 and she called from recovery about 3:25...Hannah is 7 lb. 20 oz. and 20 Inches long and has dark hair. Her apghar score was only a 4 but then they got her going and her responses are perfect now. !!!

Today our new combined stake wards were re aligned. 1st ward is no more...it is spread between 3 wards. We keep our same Bishop and 2 counselors.We are called Bear Valley Ward ..we get part of Orange Glen Ward..which is no more... added to us..and we attend the Washington Bldg now.[it is not a nice building..in a lousy area.] It should be interesting ! Only 81 families of our original ward remain together.

Before and after pictures..

Black matt finish Naugahyde was my fabric of choice..The chair seats were done with a sink down affect, like a "donut" ...I ripped off the fabric piping, removed the sticking up staples..then I cut wood bases and drilled the 4 bolt holes in them. I used our other chair pads to fill in the middle of the donut, then put the wood on that ..and stapled the black Naugahyde over it all before replacing the seats on the frames...then bolted it all back together. Hard on the back, arms, wrists and hands due to the pressure to keep the fabric taut and stapled nicely. Only 1 popped blister on my hand...Fun Project.

Today Escondido and Escondido South Stakes were combined into Escondido Stake. The current other stake president Pres. Wilkinson is in charge with new counselors Pres. Moore and Pres. Baker. At least they put our stakes' awesome R.S. in ! Now, the new people get to decide the ward boundaries changes. Should be interesting !!

Palomar Hospital Emergency Room

I had a new adventure this morning at 4 a.m. in the emergency room...I have been having quite the allergic reaction to cat scan contrast stuff since Friday....This morning my face was so swollen and puffy, my eyes were so squinty...my body was just shaking...I was nauseous and dizzy if I got up...all day yesterday and this morning.....I itched sooooooooooooooo BAD and my kidneys were not doing anything...so we visited the ER and got the allergic reaction cocktail...and a prescription of it all for this week. I am feeling MUCH better now...the body full of hives may take a few weeks to clear they say...I love useful drugs !!! Benedril, oatmeal baths, loratadine and allegra didn't touch it....I couldn't cope any longer. Some days are like that....I am SOOOO thankful I went in..and didn't have to wait but 5 minutes !!! I hid away...now the face is clearing fine...

Last evening after the missionaries were here for dinner and gone again.. Lynn and Larry Kruger walked over to find out when church was today..save us a seat they said. They sat with us for Sacrament meeting. Lynn has obviously worked with the teens and is excellent talking with them ! Her alto is awesome...Larry is very nice ! One of these days they will head off in their motor home and we will miss them !

lunch and stores

Today I went out to lunch with a friend ...{for making a Woody vest for her son.} We had lunch at Nordstrom Cafe and then went to a fabric store in Vista and a fancy fabric store in Salona Beach..looking for fabric to cover her dining chairs and a couch...I was gone from 11:00 to 4:00 with her...I didn't get anything done since before I left I was on the computer chatting with my elder brother....but hey, fun day !

Pacific Coast Hwy...

Today I got lost going to Newport Beach Temple...but I was on Pacific Coast Hwy. so I knew I would get to Newport Beach. The inspired voices in my head after a prayer told me to turn on Newport Coast Hwy. when I saw it....it ends at the road that the temple is on Bonita Canyon Dr.[ left about a mile...I could see it when I came over a hill]...Awesome ...I just love that kind of heavenly help !! And I got a great view of the ocean all along Pacific coast Hwy. ! It was also hilarious...I was driving behind a convertible with a BIG black St. Bernard in the back seat...his tail hung over the car on the left side and his snout hung over the side of the car on the right..he filled up the whole back seat !!

Today we had 3 great adventures !! The city historical society had a rummage sale in Grape Park...I got some birthday gifts for Abby and a few things for me...Then the library was having half price book sale day and I got some more gifts for Abby and a book for me ..then Old Town San Diego was having their yearly Mormon Battalion re-enactment stuff going on and there was also a street fair going on and Dadu bought me two pair of one -of -a- kind earrings from an artist there...he does my kind of sculpture...We exchanged ideas...and he gave us discounts !!! I have great birthday gifts..that I got to pick !! It was a fun day !!

Newport Beach Temple day

The San Diego Temple is closed for 3 weeks so today I went to the Newport Beach Temple and did 2 sessions...It is the same floor plan as others but it is beautiful how they have decorated theirs !!! I enjoyed it...the drive was very busy..mucho cars and an accident on the way home had me going about 5mph for quite a while...too bad I don't know how to travel by the speed of light !!! I have to keep up to make my yearly goal !!

To think I was concerned because we have 3 weeks off while they fix the inside of the San Diego Temple. ! I was thinking I may forget things...........new change.........I will be the initiatory coordinator for my shift when we get back...that is all I will do for 5 or 6 months.....The chances of forgetting ALOT just got BIGGER !!

Today I have visitors..a young pregnant mother in my ward with a busy little boy that needs a yard to play in..she can not chase him at the park anymore. They live in an apartment with no play area. So, they are playing in my backyard..it helps that is will be 80 degrees today with beautiful blue sky and sunshine...I am doing laundry, looking on the computer ...basically not much..maybe cutting out another pattern..I got the sewing project of the week done yesterday. Yesterday at the temple it was so cool..I ran into cousins ! I was doing names and asked a name and heard my maiden name ! I said," Wait, who are you, that was my name !!" My cousin Dennis was in town for work and brought his wife ! They live out of state and I have not seen him for decades !! His wife is awesome too !! It was GREAT !

It never rains in Southern California...ya, that song is psycho...not heavy ..just steady... nice day to be inside doing computer or reading and making cookies to take to neighbors...snickerdoodles to be exact...and we took them under a big umbrella. We have the Christmas lights on the trees and Christmas music playing in the sewing room...
Our choir did our program in Church today so we had the whole afternoon free !!!!

I have officially passed off all my memorizing with my trainer..before 4 months at the temple. I am also beyond my goal for the year of 100 endowment sessions...I have started filling in free time doing initiatories. Today was awesome..now that I am not so stressed I am enjoying the people I work with and getting to know them better.

annual S.D. Temple worker devotional

Last night we went to an awesome devotional at the largest chapel and rec. hall I have ever seen in one of our churches ! It was full and the power vibes in that room were awesome..almost tangible !! Our main speaker was Elder L. Whitney Clayton in the presidency of the seventy and from our ward in Whittier as kids growing up. He asked about my eldest brother by name as they are the same age and asked about mom as he knew dad was dead. His memory is amazing ! It was an awesome meeting. He made a great analogy..as the San Diego Temple was being built he lived in Irvine and commuted past it each day to San Diego for business...he watched them clear and level the land and start building and it did not slow traffic at all until the spires went up...but it almost brought traffic to a stand still when angel Moroni went up...He compared this to our spiritual development as we have to clear the field and start to build our own spirituality and as we gain more it starts to be obvious and visible and the world takes notice and wants to know more. It took 10 thousand scaffolds to cover the temple and over 50 thousand gallons of coating to resurface the outside.

Tonight is the annual devotional for the San Diego Temple workers. Elder Clayton is speaking and it is in Rancho Panesquitos. I signed up to take 3 dozen cookies..I am actually taking brownies. Today I only had 3 sunbeams so it was easy even though one could NOT stay in his chair and could NOT stop talking. Raining yesterday, today and maybe tomorrow though there are patches of blue sky right now !! Yesterday I went to a fun baby shower in a part of Escondido Hills I have not been to before...after I went to a card party for a widow in our ward.

We had an awesome stake conference today. It helps that our stake president is REAL and so funny !! {He also plays in his own band...Allen and the Haneyacts.}
We were given several challenges ..........attend the temple more !! Pray for 30 minutes without asking for anything...then stay and listen. Just pray harder in general. Don't be afraid to say something to anyone about the gospel...even if it is just the name of the church...it takes several comments to make someone interested in the church. BE GRATEFUL !!! It is the base requirement for a lot of blessings !! Think about times and things in your life that you are thankful for ..send a letter to someone thanking them !!
