Look! Look family. Look, look. Look, fun. Fun, fun. We went on vacation. We looked. We had fun?
We flew out of Ontario Airport Wednesday, April 29, and landed after 6 hours and three time zone changes in Indianapolis. You might ask why Idianapolis. I'll tel you. I don't know. But it's a tradition to go places we've never been, to see sights that those travel brochures say will be most entertaining. And will see the 'real' side of new and exciting places. (We had a layover in Las Vegas, been there, done that)
Drove from Indianapolis to Edinburgh. Didn't see a single kilt. Checked into the hotel, then drove to Bloomington, IN to help with the unloading of S & A's rental truck. Got there just in time to witness the final unloading of the truck. The Elder Quorum and S picked up the piano and carried it to the house up the stairs and into the front room. It was awesome to watch. I did sweep out the truck. A's parents were there assisting with grandchildren and unloading the truck too.
Then we went shopping at Sam's Club for necessities, like trash cans and bird seed. And then to dinner. We had never been to Cracker Barrel so that was where we went. It was a dining experience. I ordered the meat loaf dinner, they were out of meat loaf. S was going to order the sampler, but they were out of meat loaf and one other item. They were limited on the vegetables available. We all finally made our selections and the order was taken to the kitchen. Then the waiter came back and said the were out of corn muffins. Then he came back and said the were out of biscuits, would we like toast? Eventually we ate and when it came to the bill they kindly reduced the amount because of the problems with getting the food we wanted.
The next day we drove to northern Indiana to Nappanee and Goshen. Saw the Amish Acres which we are certain was created to keep the tourists away from the real Amish. The next day we went to the Shipshewana Festival. There were more real Amish related things there than at Amish Acres. We discovered something interesting about the midwest. Their garage sales are actually in the garage and they usually run Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. That was great but it sure didn't help our travel time table when we kept turning off the highway and looking for that garage sale everytime we saw a sign. The scheduled three hour drive from Edinburgh to Goshen took eight hours.
Saturday we drove to North Olmstead Ohio.
Sunday we went to the Regional Conference at the Kirtland Stake Center and then went to Historic Kirtland and took the tour.
Monday we went to the John Johnson home and took the tour after I had gone to the Northern Ohio District Safety Office and completed my weekly report. Then we drove to Fairborn Ohio. Actually drove on the Ohio Turnpike for a bit which wasn't as bad as I thought. Midwest tollroads are cheaper than California ones.
Tuesday we drove to Bloomington Ohio to visit and help remove wallpaper at S&A's new house.
Wednesday it rained alot and so there wasn't much to do. We went with A and the kids to the Bloomington Library, and then after lunch we drove up to Indianapolis to fly home.
Pictures will come after my wife downloads them. That is her contribution to our vacation blog.
PS: Don't go to Toledo Ohio. John Denver was right!!
